unity 3D

Unity 3D is the first official “public” game engine recognized by Capcom in the development of Resident Evil titles, having been used for umbrella Corps for development on PC and Sony PlayStation 4.

INFO

Aside from using their in-house tech MT framework and RE Engine, Capcom made the decision to develop Umbrella Corps utilizing Unity 3D. This appears to have been due to a possible evaluation for smaller titles.

Unity 3D appears to offer a more streamlined solution for developing titles which release on multiple platforms. Another reason for its use could have been the decision of Nintendo to feature Unity 3D in the official software development kit for the Nintendo Wii U. A platform which Capcom is familiar with.

Apart from allowing 3D game development, Unity 3D also features a 2D-development mode. Both of these development environments have become favorites amongst indie developers.

As of this moment, Umbrella Corps is the only title to have been developed with Unity 3D. It is unclear if Capcom will continue to use Unity 3D for future titles in the series.
