biohazard operation raccoon city

BIOHAZARD Operation Raccoon City is the first full-fledged shooter for the series. It features a non-canon “what if” scenario which shows a different side to the events leading up to the destruction of Raccoon City.

PLOT

The story follows Umbrella Security Service [USS] Delta Team as they are dispatched to Raccoon City.

They meet up with USS Alpha Team leader HUNK and try to stop William Birkin from handing over his research to the U.S. Government.

The mission goes south and the viral outbreak begins to take over Raccoon City.

FEATURES

Operation Raccoon City features four-player co-op gameplay as well as 4 vs 4 deathmatches. It is also one of the few titles to be developed outside of Capcom, with Slant Six Games of SOCOM US Navy Seals fame handling the development for the project. Future downloadable content released for the game allows the player to assume the role of the U.S. Spec Ops team tracking the USS Delta Team.

Each player of both USS Delta and Spec Ops feature unique abilities which provided a wide range of play styles, such as heavy weapons characters, snipers, close quarter combat, and stealth.

DEVELOPMENT NOTES

BIOHAZARD Operation Raccoon City’s development was rumored online on November 1st. 2010.

Developed by SOCOM veterans Slant Six Games, CAPCOM was looking to continue its outsourced development of BIOHAZARD titles. Originally conceived during the development of Lost Planet 2, CAPCOM was interested in creating a co-op multiplayer shooter based within the BIOHAZARD universe. After the successful collaboration between CAPCOM and Canadian developer Blue Castle Games, Slant Six was chosen to develop.

Blue Castle Games’ successful involvement with Dead Rising 2 led CAPCOM to acquire the studio and re-brand them as CAPCOM Vancouver. It seemed as if CAPCOM was on the path to acquire North American developers to release future installments of their franchises. Created using Slant Six’s proprietary HEXANE Game Engine, Operation Raccoon City showed promise as a fun theoretical “what-if” scenario. Unfortunately, Operation Raccoon City was plagued with gameplay issues upon release.
