re engine

RE Engine is the second official proprietary engine to be officially recognized by Capcom. It was developed primarily for the development of Resident Evil 7: biohazard. As of this moment, it is the premier engine for Resident Evil development.

INFO

The decision to create a new game engine to replace MT Framework was due to the Resident Evil 7 team being unable to realize their desired vision with their current toolset. Thus, Capcom decided to work on the title and a brand new engine simultaneously.

The main feature of the RE Engine is that, according to Capcom, it reduces development time up to 90% on certain development processes. Materials can also be created separately, giving the team more time to iterate freely. VR compatibility has also been incorporated into the engine.

In-house tools have also been created for exporting files into the RE Engine, such as an asset exporter for Autodesk Maya.

As of this moment, the RE Engine appears to be the exclusive engine for Resident Evil titles, while Panta Rhei will be used for other Capcom titles.
