MT Framework is the first officially recognized proprietary game engine used by Capcom. Before the creation of MT Framework, all in-house teams used their own engines for their specific titles.

MT Framework was originally created for the development of Dead Rising and Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. Capcom had evaluated Unreal Engine 3, they decided against it due to performance limitations and difficulties getting technical support from Epic Games, in Japan.

Development for MT Framework began in September 2004, based on the Onimusha 3 engine. MT Framework continued to receive updates as new titles were being developed, this lead to the creation of MT Framework Lite and MT Framework Mobile. The latest title developed with MT Framework has been Monster Hunter World.

For Resident Evil titles, Capcom has moved onto the brand new RE Engine, which features a number of tools unavailable in MT Framework.

The Panta Rhei engine has also been developed in-house at Capcom for use on future titles as well.
